Inspired by my recent playthough of this dungeon.

Widow's Veil (Veteren) will be a boss fight split into two main phases, and is meant to be done by at least three players.

For those who forgot, Widow's Veil is a dungeon in Act I, whose boss is the Winter Widow (a giant frozen spider). This is the dungeon with Unlit Braziers.

---

Widow's Veil (Veteren) Phase 1 begins when the player(s) enters the dungeon. As per vanilla, it will be dark with Unlit Braziers littered throughout the dungeon.

Winter Widow (Phase One)
  • Moves towards the end of the dungeon
  • Periodically lays Webs. Webs immobilize, and slow attack, movement and cast speeds of players significantly.
  • Spawns Egg Sack periodically after reaching the end of the dungeon
Unlit Braziers
  • Can be activated to light up the dungeon
  • Attracts Leaping Spiders when activated
Leaping Spider
  • Leaping Attack: Leaps to a target, dealing damage and reducing attack, movement and cast speeds
  • Gains a significant speed (attack, move, cast) when standing in a web
  • Debuffs killers with one stack of "Icky" for 1 minute
The idea of this phase is to get to the end of the dungeon as quickly as possible to reduce the number of Egg Sacks that will be present in Phase Two. This can be accomplished by avoiding the Webs that the Winter Widow places across the dungeons. However, the webs cannot be seen without activating the Unlit Braziers which attracts Leaping Spiders.

---

Phase Two begins when the player(s) reach the end of the dungeon. Upon reaching the end of the dungeon, they will again encounter the Winter Widow.

Winter Widow (Phase Two)
  • Always focuses the player with the highest number of "Icky" stacks
  • Attacks deal extra damage based on the number of "Icky" stacks
  • Gains a significant speed (attack, move, cast) when standing in a web
  • Ground Smash: Moderate delay attack that inflicts lethal damage and knockback in a small area
  • Entwined: Links two players. If those players are standing too close to each other, they are immobilized
Egg Sacks (Phase Two)
  • Periodically spawns Spiderlings
  • Debuffs killers with 10 stacks of "Icky" until they die or leave the dungeon
  • Immobile, High Health and Armor
Spiderlings
  • Periodically lays Webs. Cannot lay Web if silenced, or stunned.
  • No resistance to crowd control effects (knockback, blind, stun etc.)
  • Gains a significant speed (attack, move, cast) when standing in a web
  • Moves towards the Winter Widow
  • Debuffs killers with one stack of "Icky" for 1 minute
The difficulty of Phase Two depends on how many Egg Sacks that were spawned in Phase One.

The idea of this phase is to try to juggle controlling the Webs, and damaging the Winter Widow at the same time.

Additionally, players also have to juggle the number of "Icky" debuffs they have, and preventing the Winter Widow from stepping on a web while switching targets. The player focused by the Winter Widow also has to avoid getting hit by Ground Smash, and players also need to ensure not to get immobilized by Entwined.

Note that Webs remain in the fight as long as they are laid, so positioning them in convenient locations is necessary. Phase Two is not meant last very long, but it is intended for the fight to get severely out of hand if not ended quickly (i.e. whole arena is covered by Webs).

Widow's Veil (Elite) will be a ramped up version of Veteran, but most of the things present in Veteran remain. However, Elite will be a three phase encounter, as opposed to a two phase one.

---

Widow's Veil (Elite) introduces the "Shivering" debuff. This debuff will be active on all players for the entire encounter (Phase One through Three). "Shivering" is a stacking debuff that reduces movement, attack and cast speeds increasingly and stacks up to 10 times. On the 10th stack, the player will be immobilized and periodically take Ice damage until they die.

This debuff gains a stack every few seconds, but stacks can be reset by moving to another player or near an Unlit Brazier.

---

Winter Widow (Phase One)
  • Moves towards the end of the dungeon
  • Periodically lays Webs. Webs immobilize, and slow attack, movement and cast speeds of players significantly.
  • Spawns Egg Sack periodically after reaching the end of the dungeon
Unlit Braziers
  • Can be activated to light up the dungeon
  • Resets "Shivering" stacks
  • Attracts Leaping Spiders when activated
Leaping Spider
  • Leaping Attack: Leaps to a target, dealing damage and reducing attack, movement and cast speeds
  • Entwined: Links two players. If those players are standing too close to each other, they are immobilized
  • Gains a significant speed (attack, move, cast) when standing in a web
  • Debuffs killers with one stack of "Icky" for 1 minute
This is exactly the same as the Veteran encounter, except players also have to deal with the "Shivering" debuff. Additionally, Leaping Spiders gain the Entwined ability, forcing players to be tactical about how they choose to dispel the "Shivering" debuff.

Also, Webs alone can be fatal in this phase, as being caught by a Web with several stacks of "Shivering" will cause the player to be slowed into immobility.

  • Invulnerable while Egg Sacks are alive
  • Ground Smash: Moderate delay attack that inflicts lethal damage and knockback in a small area
  • Entwined: Links two players. If those players are standing too close to each other, they are immobilized
Egg Sacks (Phase Two)
  • Periodically spawns Spiderlings
  • Debuffs killers with 10 stacks of "Icky" for 10 seconds
  • Spawns Leaping Spiders upon death
  • Immobile, High Health and Armor
Spiderlings
  • Periodically lays Webs. Cannot lay Web if silenced, or stunned.
  • 0% resistance to crowd control effects (knockback, blind, stun etc.)
  • Gains a significant speed (attack, move, cast) when standing in a web
  • Moves towards the Winter Widow
  • Debuffs killers with one stack of "Icky" for 1 minute
As with before, this part of the fight can quickly end in defeat if too many Egg Sacks were spawned during Phase One.

However, in the Elite version, players must clear out all the Egg Sacks. Clearing an Egg Sack will most likely cause the Winter Widow to switch targets, and also spawns Leaping Spiders that must be dealt with. This is intended to be the most dangerous part of this phase.

Oh, and the "Shivering" debuff is still in play here. So players will have to remember to dispel the debuff while clearing out Egg Sacks, while controling the small spiders.

---

Phase Three begins when all the Egg Sacks have been destroyed, and the Winter Widow becomes vulnerable.

Winter Widow (Phase Three)
  • Lethal damage if the target is in a Web
  • Attacks deal extra damage based on the number of "Icky" stacks
  • Gains a significant speed (attack, move, cast) when standing in a web
  • Uses attacks in the following order: Spider Dash (x5), Entwined, Ground Smash (x2), Entwined, Ground Smash (x2), repeat
  • Spider Dash: Fast dash attack, dealing high damage and knockback. Selects a random Web to dash to.
  • Ground Smash: Moderate delay attack that inflicts lethal damage and knockback in a small area
  • Entwined: Links two players. If those players are standing too close to each other, they are immobilized
The final phase is just a beatdown on the Winter Widow, but same concept as Phase Two: it gets harder if you didn't end Phase Two quickly.

This phase is meant to punish players if they could not deal with Phase Two quickly or efficiently enough. Having too many webs left over from Phase Two across the arena will most likely end in defeat.

Otherwise, it is about dodging her attacks and damaging her during her Ground Smash casts, while remaining on top of dispeling "Shivering", not getting Entwined or caught in webs.
